Mini Book Review: Alan Sugar – What You See Is What You get

Having being kidnapped and shipped to Egypt for a week I decided that I’d hit up some literature on the beach, and whilst I don’t normally post book reviews on here because they take too long, Lord Sugar’s autobiography however stood out for me, and as a valuable insight into being a successful businessperson I figured it worthy of a quick ramble.

Life & Times Of A Serial Entrepreneur

Prior to reading this book I knew of Lord Sugar through, of course, the fantastic “The Apprentice” on BBC TV, and as a kid trying to like football in the 90s, I did sort of know him from his illustrious days at Spurs; and of course I knew he essentially “was” Amstrad too – but that I didn’t know too much about.

Diving into the book you get a fantastic look at how little Alan grew up on a Council estate in London and, using some common sense, hard graft and more than a little cheeky chappiness, began to amass his fortune from a very early (teen)age.

The One Paragraph Review

Charting his rise from photographer (ish) to electronics magnate; the meteoric rise and the extremely serious business issues that Lord Sugar has navigated is an inspiring read for any budding businessperson. I really don’t want to go into detail because of my point about reviews being a little cumbersome; bottom line: if you want to succeed in business, this autobiography will give you some serious insight into how to handle certain situations, suppliers, business deals and the importance of understanding your market.
